Moving abroad doesn’t mean you have to lose your UK phone number. Whether you have a mobile number or a landline number, you can port it over to koykay and make it a ‘virtual’ number. All this means is that the number is no longer tied to a physical line that runs to your house or a sim card that’s in your mobile phone. When you move abroad, you can get a new sim or landline and we you can keep using your UK number as if you never left.
How does it work?
KoyKay is a phone company, just like any other. Once you move your number to our network we become responsible for delivering calls and text messages to you.
How do I receive calls to my UK number after porting?
Once your number is active on our network you can tell us how you’d like to receive calls. Here are your options:
1. Forward calls to your UK number to your new phone number abroad. Call forwarding charges apply. We have to pay to call your foreign number, so we pass this cost on to you.
2. Forward calls to your UK number to an app on your phone. You can receive calls via data or wifi.
3. Forward calls to your UK number to voicemail. Voicemail auto answers calls and we send you an email with the message as an attachment.
How do I receive text messages to my UK number after porting?
If your number is a mobile number, we simply forward text messages to your email address. For UK landlines and special numbers text messages (SMS) availability may vary, we’d need to check for your number before you port to us. Just contact us to find out if we can support SMS on your UK number.
How much does it cost?
Moving your number to us is free of charge when you sign up to a 12 month contract at £4/month (£48/year).
If you’d rather pay monthly, the porting charge is £15 one-off and the monthly cost is £5/month.
If you plan to send SMS from your number or forward your calls to another mobile, then you’ll also need to buy a call package or pay as you go credit. We’ll debit this credit for minutes used to forward your UK number to a foreign number. Call charges will vary depending on the country you are forwarding your calls to. You can always contact us to check our latest rates before signing up.
How do I port my number to you?
To port your UK mobile to us you need to ask your current mobile provider to give you a Porting Authority Code (PAC Code). This code lets us ask them to move the number over to our service. Please note that if you are still in contract with your old provider, you may be liable for early termination fees. Once you have your PAC code, just contact us and we’ll start the process to port your UK mobile number to our service. It usually takes about 2-5 working days to complete.
To port your UK landline number to us, you’ll need to fill out a form which gives us some details about your current telephone provider, your account number with them etc. This enables us to contact them on your behalf and ask them to move the number to us. Please note that porting the number will cancel the physical line. This means that any services running on that line e.g. broadband would stop working. You should check with your provider before porting your UK landline number to us to ensure you are out of contract and that none of your services will stop working.
I have questions, can you help me?
Of course! Just drop us a note via the contact page and we’ll do our very best to help you keep your UK number while you move abroad.
